Short Fiction Contest 2012

Riddle us with your most brilliant writing!

Win big prestige, publication–and four days at Piper’s Frith: Writing at Kilmory, an intense writing experience held every October in Newfoundland. This year’s Frith Faculty are Michael Crummey, Don McKay, Lisa Moore.

Piper’s Frith will take place October 22-27, 2012

The winning story will be published in Riddle Fence and the winner will receive full registration to Piper’s Frith: Writing at Kilmory, including program fees, accommodation, meals and transportation from St. John’s to/from Kilmory Resort.

Kilmory is a four-star resort nestled in the Piper’s Hole River Valley on the Burin Peninsula. Writers stay in fully furnished waterfront chalets and gain inspiration from the spectacular surroundings. Workshops and one-on-one mentoring with some of Canada’s best writers round out the experience.

The Rules

• Stories must be in some form of English (any dialect); maximum of 4,000 words.
• Stories entered in the contest must be unpublished and not currently submitted to any other publication or contest.
• The contest is open to all writers age 19 and over, everywhere fine writing is done.
• One entry per participant, please.
• Stories will be judged “blind” so include the title of your story but NOT the author’s name or any revealing data on the story itself. Include a cover letter or cover email with your name, mailing address, phone number, story title and word count.

Entry fee (includes a one-year subscription to Riddle Fence): $35 in Canada; $45 elsewhere. Outside Canada/U.S., please send a money order in Canadian or U.S. funds for $45.

All entrants will receive a one-year subscription to Riddle Fence. (Already receiving RF? Let us know in your cover letter/email whether you want to extend or give this subscription as a gift.)

Caitlin Laura Galway is a Toronto-based fiction writer. She is presently an English Literature major at Queen’s University, an editor for Metazen, a reviewer for The Toronto Quarterly, and an editorial intern with Calyx Books. Most recently, she was the winner of CBC’s 2011 Stranger than Fiction Contest and a finalist in Glimmer Train’s 2010 Fiction Open Contest, and was shortlisted for Matrix Magazine‘s 2011 Litpop Award. Her work has appeared in numerous journals across the globe, and her first novel, Blackbird, is set for release in 2013 with Aqueous Books.
